The Steam game release process was a big learning experience for me. I originally intended to release this in June, but the back and forth with Valve in terms of their QA process for store page graphics and some initial program-launching issues added about 3 weeks of extra dev time to the launch window.
I have to say that Valve’s developer support has been very professional, and I’m impressed with how comprehensive their game hosting platform is on the backend. I suppose that’s to be expected, considering their long time position as the best game storefront in the world. Now that I’ve been through this process, I can relate my experience to aspiring game developers using Panda3D to get their visions realized for the world to see.
Unless I’m mistaken, I believe this might be the first Steam Store release of a Panda3D engine game since Signal Ops around 2013 (like 13 years ago!).
Since I’ve already posted the initial blurb here on the forum, I’ll just say that Time Dilation Lab is a simulation environment which exposes Einstein’s special relativity equations in a 3D interface. If you’ve ever wanted to explore the relationship between speed and temporal compression, or if you’ve wondered about the nature of redshifting and blueshifting Doppler effects, this is a game for you.
