Radeon Mobility -> says hardware rendering not enabled

Running Hardy on an HP laptop w/ ATI Mobility Radeon.

It gives the standard message about hardware rendering not enabled and please enable software rendering if that’s what you really wanted, etc.

I used the Gutsy .deb and the installation didnt have any issues; i jsut cant get any of the samples i’ve tried so far to run.

Funny thing is that the glxgears test program runs fine at a fast rate. Suggestions?

Followed the instructions a few posts down in this thread: ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=282248

and im getting the answer ‘no’, so presumably the hardware acceleration actually isn’t enabled.

Well ubuntuforums has not yielded any useful information so far - can anyone point me in the right direction? (apologies for the triple post)

i run x600 ATI Mobility Radeon - ubutnu - no problems ever. (except that it some times gets confused over if it has 128mb or 64mb of ram)
