Just posted a new update about the totally overhauled PStats profiling tool coming in Panda3D 1.11! With added flame graphs, a new timeline view, session capture/sharing, and a native macOS port. macOS users can grab a standalone version now, others can try it in the latest dev builds.

Check it out here:

I’ve said it before, but let me say it again: I am a big fan of the new PStats, and especially of the new “flame chart” view!

Flame charts are just so, so much more intuitive to read; I find that with a flame chart I can see pretty much at a glance matters that I imagine would have taken some digging and parsing with the old charts.

(In fact, I used the new PStats just the other day to dig into a performance issue, as I recall!)

The timeline view I hadn’t noticed before–but it does look useful, now that I’m aware of it!

And oooh–setting a default window-layout is an excellent feature! I have actually chafed a little in the past at having to set up my windows every single time–to be able to have my usual preferred layout be the default for me sounds like just the thing!

I will also say that I can absolutely believe that there have been significant performance improvements in PStats: While it still (naturally) incurs some overhead, I find that I can use things like Python profiling as a matter of course, and still have decent-enough performance in my program!

So, overall, excellent improvements, I do feel, and very well done on them!

Happy to read that! You can save your workspace layout by clicking “Save Current Layout as Default” all the way at the bottom of the Graphs menu.
