geomipterrain question

i didn’t understand so well how the terrain generator works…
it generates terrain randomly or follows certain rules?

thanks in advance!

you supply the generator with an highfield image. the generator then generatges 3d-geometry based on the image.

ok. sorry if I bother you again but english is not my first language and sometimes I cannot understand very well the manual. In this case I suppose an highfield image to be a normal png image but… how can i edit that? I’ve… never heard about that…

Thanks!

highfield images are not the same as normal-map-images.
highfield images basically are: the elevation stored as brightness.

there are lots of terrain-editors which can export/save heighfield images. they can also be created manually using a paint-application such as gimp or photoshop.

oh ok! thank you a lot!
I’m trying to realize an rts game and i was in doubt on how to manage the maps.

One way is to use geomipterrain but placing objects become a bit of a problem…
The other is to use a model (modelled with blender) and place empty nodes with particular names at player’s start path.

The last choice is to build my map format but is very difficult only to listen it.
