extremely long wait time leading to slow frame rate

ive currently got an environment that has a very low frame rate - 19-20 fps even with video sync off. the low framerate is being caused by extremely long wait/flip/begin times, which take up ~90% of the total time (~40ms). the number of geometries is not very large (40), and i don’t see any obvious cause of this…

does anyone have any explanations or ideas on how to increase frame rate?
