Well I am new to panda3d but not programming all together. I have touched on the basics of many programming languages but never really went in real deep with one. Since panda3d uses python scripting are there any books that you all recommend to get me started with panda3d?

Yes, that is a good one. I also recommend dive into python www.diveintopython.org for intermediate programmers. (byte of python is more for beginners.) If you feel you are a beginner, I would say read them both, because dive into python shows you how to do some pretty cool stuff. If you feel you are intermediate level (in any real programming language) just read dive into python.
