Thanks for the links! Another approach to making skyboxes using free software is what I do, using Terragen:

Does using Blender to make skyboxes have some advantage over using Terragen?

EDIT: Actually I just realized that guy is using Terragen to render skies:
blenderartists.org/forum/showpos … stcount=27

So I don’t see the point of rendering the skybox in Blender for a terrain scene, but it would certainly be useful for a scene like a city that you would need to model in Blender.

(also, it confuses me that he gives out images to be helpful but then kinda acts like a dick when people ask follow-up questions)
