type of game

I’m new here and I was wondering if me and my team can make a mmorpg with panda3D?

hi, welcome to panda.
if you’r intrested in creating mmorpg’s i suggest you use the serach function of the forum. and type “mmorpg” without quotes of course. it should give you more than 60 results.

long answer short. panda can handle mmorpg’s quite fine.
the question is: are YOU able to write one.

there where many people like you, coming here , asking the same question. panda can handle it, no question. the question is if you can. feel free to read the previous threads about it and judge for yourself.

If I’m right Panda3D was made initially for Pirates of the Caribbean MMO…

well panda came a long way. i think it dates back a lot further.
but if you’r talking about mmo’s then toontown would be the on. potc came later

ok, thank you.
I have a modler and a music guy, but I was planning on doing the rest my self.
its a lot of work I know that, just wondering: if I made some scripts in realm crafter can I use them in panda?
also are the edetors easy to use?

sorry for my bad spelling I from holland

i dont know realcrafter but i doubt you can re-use the scripts. so no, you will have to rewrite them.
and panda has no integrated editors yet. (thought it’s under development).
there are some useful tools to help with object placement. or you can use an external editor like blender, max or maya.

ok thank you.
has anyone made a working mmorpg server?

Disney has.

oh and the answer to your next question would be “no, not yet. although there was some discussion about it”

ok, just making sure.

You might want to look at Project Darkstar : projectdarkstar.com/

It’s sort of a sister project where there are specific resources allocated to make it Panda-friendly. Even without that, you should be able to benefit anyway.

Let me know how it works out, I am following all mmo related projects that involve panda3d

Speaking about darkstar, this WIP project would be interesting too:
etc.cmu.edu/projects/darkstar/

it’s the same

how would my project be interesting?
and where does WIP stand for?

“WIP” means “Work In Progress”.

he meant you can use project darkstar as your Server component, so you can focus mostly on your actual game concept and on the client part of the game.

Read! Read! Read!
When done reading, read some more!

ok, sorry I did not really under stand what rdb meant.
thsnk you I will look on the website and see how the server is.
