OT: Microsoft software dev. "best practices"?

Hi.

Does anyone know where I can find the best practices for microsoft operating systems regarding deployment of user configurable software?

Under XP its not a big deal to run a program with admin rights because most accounts are admin accounts anyway. But using Vista, these rules got stricter and only a few places are allowed for config files to be stored at (and editable by a non-admin user).

The question is: Where can I find these guidelines I’ve read about in the past years?

I am not talking about Panda3D here, but instead of a more general issue for another, C/C++ based project and their need to run the program as admin all the time. :frowning:

Soooo… thanks in advance.

can you wrap the app in VMware linux box?

Heh. I think not.

Its still a windows app - and one that relies heavily on 3D accelerators.

However, there should be a guideline out there from microsoft teaching the devs on how to handle per-user-configs and stuff…

I don’t find it.

Is this doc useful:

Hi. That looks promising.

Thanks! I will digg through it and say a bit more afterwards…
