modelling?

ok im new to game making, so i dont know all this low and high poly modelling. So can someone tell me what poly count should use for models/ what is the safe number while still getting a good frame rate?

1,000-10,000 poly

simple rule… as few as possible but as much as neccessary to make it look good.

might not help much. so best way to figure out is to create maybe 5 differently detailed model-versions. load them all into a test-application which resembles a typical game-scene. and see which one looks good while keeps polys low.
