FPS lag when model in scene

I have a few tree models that I have built in maya and exported to .egg with the Maya Panda Exporter v 1.3. The tree models are constructed the same all using the same 2 textures 1 diffuse (color) map and 1 mask (alpha) map. And are comprised of 3 LODs. When one tree is rendered in the level the Frame rate drops by 20 FPS? I have tried removing the Mask texture from the model as well as the lower LODs. Any ideas to where and or why im experiancing the lag when the the model is in view

“Dropping by 20 FPS” doesn’t say much, when we don’t know what your baseline is. For instance, a drop from 40 FPS to 20 FPS is huge, but a drop from 640 FPS to 620 FPS is trivial. Also, you should set “sync-video 0” in your Config.prc whenever you want to analyze performance, so you don’t get confused by the effects of video sync.

My first guess about your tree, though, is to try a flattenStrong() on the model. If that doesn’t have an effect, I’d look at PStats to see where the extra time is being spent.
